(SOLD OUT). On A Good Day, You Can See France (photobook 2022)

from Marianne Dissard

Book/Magazine

First edition photo book. Limited-edition of 50.

Hello,

I'm supremely excited to present my first photobook, 'On a good day you can see France'.

I designed the book myself, poring over thousands of photos I made in Ramsgate during winter 2020, the year Christmas was cancelled... I wanted the book to speak of our collective experience of a traumatic time and to remind us of situations and feelings we've already mostly chosen to forget.

With 79 photographs arranged in 5 sections over 124 pages, the book measures 19.5cm by 25cm. Conceived as a bilingual edition (Fr/En) with an astute 7-page preface by Raphael Mann, the Coptic-bound softcover limited-edition of 50 was printed in France by Escourbiac Imprimeurs, a long-trading fine art and photography printing press located near Albi.

I'll ship from either the UK or France to bypass Brexit custom fees and delays.

I hope you'll like it and I can't wait to hear what you think. Thanks so much for your support.

How I ended up in Glasgow...

What a ride it's been since October 18th, 2020, the day I took my first 'Ramsgate' photo!

That winter, I couldn't think much beyond getting out every single day to 'see' and 'witness' my most immediate one square-mile of England under such unprecedented and relentless pressure. Only with the start of the vaccination campaign that sunny spring, shirts coming off as hastily as masks, would the pressure ease up a bit.

That summer, after Kent had mostly 're-opened', I exhibited hundreds of these images on 'the fence', a 60-meter wide public installation in Ramsgate's industrial port. This led to an invitation by gallerist Laurent Delaye to show a selection of 20 photos at his Ramsgate fine art space. Simultaneously, 'Doris', the iconic image of the series, was picked by Turner Contemporary in Margate for their fall 2021 Open group exhibition. A few weeks later, I presented the series in Paris at Louxor Cinema in a multi-room solo installation set-designed by Bastien Forestier.

Finally this summer, The Glasgow Gallery of Photography will host my first UK solo show from 29 July to 25 August, funded in part by Creative Scotland. If you're in Glasgow, my new hometown, please visit us in Merchant City.
