Marianne Dissard covers Steely Dan's Dirty Work from 1972 album Can't Buy a Thrill.

Screeching guitars? Squealing sax tearing your head off? Subtle, warm lead vocals by Dissard open into layered pop harmonies but this 'Dirty Work' plays nasty.

Earlier this year, Dissard took to heart this sweet and cynical paean to 'love' and recorded the Steely Dan classic with Tucson bassist Thøger Lund (Howe Gelb), and guitarist Connor Gallaher. The session was engineered by Matt Rendon (Resonars) at his 1968-styled, 8-track Tucson studio Midtown Island.

English saxophonist Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey's Hope Six Demolition Project) ripped it from London, and UK producer Raphael Mann mixed, with additional production, from Ramsgate, Kent.

Dirty Work was written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and first released on Steely Dan's debut album Can't Buy a Thrill in 1972. It was originally sung by David Palmer whose 'almost angelic vocals concealed the cynicism within the lyrics' (The Guardian).
